"It is a great joy to work with young people daily. They are the future of the church." Karen Tessendorf, Fourth grade teacher |
History
Today, First Lutheran School teaches children ages 3 through 8th grade. We have a before- and after-school care program during the school year and a day camp during the summer. FLS is one of more than 2,000 Lutheran elementary schools in the United States and Canada who have called more than 12,000 teachers to educate well over 200,000 children. Our national organization of churches (The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod) also maintains one of the largest systems of universities and seminaries in the United States and abroad. Lutheran churches have a long history of supporting Christian education. Bringing children up in a good relationship with the one, true, holy, gracious and compassionate God revealed in our Lord Jesus Christ is a first priority. Lutheran schools strive to develop a foundation for children built upon God in Christ and His Word. They also excel at teaching English, math, science, physical education, and extra-curricular activities in order to prepare children to thrive in and contribute to today’s world—all to the praise and honor of God.
